Run Run Run

Remember that scene in Dumb and Dumber when they came back from their winter scooter ride with snot frozen to their faces? Well that's how I feel when I go running now that it's cold! Does anyone have any tips? My situation is obviously not as bad as on Dumb and Dumber, but my nose drives me crazy when running! My eyes water so bad that I look like I'm running off the frustrations of a bad break-up! Does anyone have any tips? I'm considering going to the treadmill and I really don't like that idea!! Help!

For Real This Time

Okay now I'm going to catch up the way I want - with pictures! First off, here's a pretty old one when it comes to blogs....a little photo of one of the gas lines I had to wait in during Atlanta's gas shortage. This one actually wasn't even all that bad...

Back in crochet news, Here is my cute little cactus buddy! It might seem feminine with the red flower but his name is Ivan! Shaun and I used to have a cactus we named Ivan and I killed it. oops! Leave it to me to kill a plant that can survive in desert conditions. Rosco's the only one that might kill this one!

And last but not least, my beautiful Avocado soup. I'm a very impatient cook so I have to celebrate when I make something and actually take the time to make it pretty like this. :) It wasn't the tastiest...not bad...but veeeerrrry salty! oh well, I love fall but I miss avocados!

That's it for now. Hopefully I'll have some WIP photos of my other crochet pieces up soon. Until then, happy weekend!

Time to Catch Up...

I haven't been very diligent about my blog here lately. Sorry! I've been keeping busy and have not had a chance to upload pictures from my digital camera. See, I'm a very visual person and my favorite thing about blogs are all the beautiful photos. Now my photos won't be too breathtaking (I have shaky hands and therefore blurry photos) but hopefully they'll at least be interesting! So I haven't posted because I don't like to post without pictures. But...here I go...posting at work...no pictures. But I will upload some soon.

I hope to soon upload the photos of my crocheted cactus I recently created. It's so cute! I got the pattern from Crochet Today- one of my favorite magazines! It's always full of cute, modern, easy-to-understand crochet patterns. In other crochet news, I'm now working on a gajillion projects. I have a cardigan I'm working on for myself (my first crocheted clothing! fingers crossed!), a beautiful yellow blanket for my Granny Peg for Christmas, and a toy lion for fun( from a pattern from the Kyuuto Amigurumi book). I also need to find a pretty shawl pattern to start crocheting for my other grandmother. I want it to be beautiful, since she's the one who taught me to crochet when I was a little girl. And it has to be purple-her favorite color.

In other news, life has been wonderful. I love the fall! My favorite time of year! Full of college football (War Eagle!), halloween goodies, and chilly weather perfect for crocheted scarves! Also, it's much more pleasant to run in the fall in Hotlanta. I've recently started a running program I found in Self Magazine that's supposed to teach you to run 3 miles "with ease" in 4 weeks. I am on week 2 and am already seeing alot of progress! I've always wanted to enjoy running because it's so convenient and efficient, but it's always been very difficult for me. I'm excited about this program.

I guess that's enough procrastinating at work for now! I'll post again very soon with photos!

Just Another Day in the A.....

So my boyfriend and I decided to go people watching at Dragon Con in Atl this weekend. And oh what some people watching we did! Actually, I believe it was the highlight of my people watching career! For those of you not familiar with it, Dragon Con is this 3 day convention where people that geek out about anime and video games get together and dress up as their favorite characters. I think they do stuff other than dress up, but that's all I'm interested in. It happens in Atl every year. There's other versions of it in other parts of the country also. But this one is apparently pretty big. My favorite was taking pictures of people in their crazy costumes doing normal things like Mr. Wild Kingdom here at the bar.
I have to admit....My only reason for going to Dragon Con was to poke fun at people that I found "geeky." I got there and was surprised that I actually had a section of this subculture that I fit into freakishly well. Apparently crochet was a huge thing there. And so were designer toys. Two big passions of mine. I guess geeky-ness is relative. So I must say I have a new respect for this culture.
Oh! And I got a hug from Gossamer from the bugs bunny cartoons!!! He's my fave!

Shaun is home from Iraq! Yay! Finally! This picture was taken last summer at his going away party. It's so wonderful having him home again! We've actually never been able to spend a summer together so this will be a very special summer for both of us. Thank you so much to all my friends that have helped me and Shaun get through this long long year!

In other news, I crocheted this little diddy the other night before going out...
I was quite proud of myself! It's really easy and didn't require much yarn. It's exciting to be able
to wear one of my creations!
Later Gators. Back to my new life with a boyfriend again!

The Hardest Thing about Keeping a Blog

I've discovered the hardest thing about keeping a blog is the starting of one. You don't want to type something to yourself, but you don't want to send links of your blog to people if there's nothing in it...It's a good thing I'm a talker...or a typer in this case.
If there is anyone reading this - Any special blogging tips?

Entry Numero Uno

I guess a good way to start my blogging on here is to explain "why crochet." It is partially for nostalgic reasons. My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was little, but I mostly only crocheted long long long chains and "pot holder" type items. Also I am very interested in the whole world of toy design, and I feel that crochet is a great way for me to satisfy that yearning of mine. I could say the same thing about fashion design, although I'm way more passionate about toys than clothes. But why crochet and not knitting? 1. Nostalgia - my MaMa didn't teach me to knit! 2. The Challenge! - It is easy to find cool, stylish knitting patterns out there since it has regained so much popularity, but it's a bigger challenge to find cool crochet patterns. Although it is getting easier and easier to find cool crochet thanks to RoxyCraft, CrochetMe, Ravelry, and the likes!

Well I'm going to end this post with a picture of one of my first crochet items ever! I don't have pictures of my first crochet item (Hint Hint Dryden!).
Isn't he cute? Just call him Mr. Turtle! I like to keep it simple. More pictures to come soon!
